My journey took me from Eagle River to the grandeur of Matanuska Glacier in Alaska. Embracing the leisure of the road, the two-hour drive stretched pleasantly into three. The weather was an artist's dream—sunny skies, adorned with strokes of white clouds, all at a perfect 65 degrees. At the glacier's threshold, I made my entry official, and soon after, I found myself at the glacier's edge. Traversing a glacier might seem daunting, but with the proper equipment, it's entirely doable. The hike was revealing; the sunlight, usually a friend to photographers, bleached the glacier's blues to a stark whiteness. About a mile into my trek, I encountered a crevasse—a four-foot-wide chasm plunging into the unknown.
